EchoWrite (“we”, “us”, or “our”) provides an AI writing Chrome extension and related backend services. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers the EchoWrite Chrome extension, our website, and the EchoWrite API used to power rewrite, summarize, expand, tone learning, memory, and cross-LLM handoff features.

2. Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in (for example with Google), we receive basic account details such as your email address and name so we can create and manage your EchoWrite account.

Content you choose to process

When you use EchoWrite, we process text you explicitly select or submit for a writing action (rewrite, summarize, expand, tone training, memory save, or chat handoff). We do not browse or scrape your history in the background.

Preferences and local settings

The extension stores settings locally in Chrome storage, such as your preferred AI model, toolbar preferences, and active tone profile selection, so your experience stays consistent between sessions.

Usage and technical data

We may store limited operational logs related to API requests (for example action type, latency, and approximate token usage) to operate, secure, and improve the service. We do not sell personal data.

3. How we use information

• Provide the writing features you request
• Authenticate your account and sync preferences
• Learn and apply your writing style when you train a tone profile
• Store memories you choose to save
• Process subscriptions and billing (when enabled)
• Maintain security, prevent abuse, and improve reliability

4. How we share information

We share data only with service providers needed to run EchoWrite:

• Supabase — authentication and database storage
• OpenRouter / LLM providers — to generate rewrite, summarize, and expand results
• Creem — subscription checkout and billing (when configured)
• Hosting providers — to run our website and API

These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and security practices. We do not sell your personal information.

5. Chrome extension permissions

EchoWrite requests permissions only to deliver its writing features, including storage, active tab access, side panel, context menus, identity (sign-in), scripting for the toolbar, notifications, and host access so the toolbar can work on pages where you write. Host access is used to act on text you select or explicitly send to EchoWrite — not to collect unrelated browsing activity.

6. Data retention

Account data and saved memories remain until you delete them or delete your account. Local extension settings remain on your device until you clear extension data or uninstall EchoWrite. Operational logs are retained only as long as needed for security and service operations.

7. Your choices

• You can use writing tools only on text you choose to select or submit
• You can delete memories and tone profiles from the EchoWrite side panel
• You can sign out or clear extension storage at any time
• You can uninstall the extension to remove local extension data

8. Children’s privacy

EchoWrite is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information, including encrypted transport (HTTPS) and access-controlled backend services. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

10. International processing

Your information may be processed in countries where we or our providers operate. By using EchoWrite, you understand that your information may be transferred to those locations.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above when changes are posted.
